I am writing this from my new iPhone. I just got a new Iphone and I had to do a test of how easy it was to take a picture and then blog about it. It was pretty easy.

I thought this was kind of amusing, I am sitting in the audience during Satya Nadella Keynote at PubCon 2008 yesterday and I am looking at my Twitter account every so often like most people in the audience and then I see a series of twitter posts from Danny Sullivan (below) come in at the same time. Danny was ranting about Microsoft branding issues.
I am not saying Danny did this on purpose (since he was not at the conference) but looking over the shoulder of the person in front of me (photo above) and other people, I could see people reading Danny’s posts like I was. So in a way it felt like he was in the room almost hijacking the session.
Amazing how powerful Twitter has become.

I had to totally reinstall Vista on my wife’s machine last night.
When I tried out her ITunes to see if it was working alright after the reinstall I got this message above. Her IPod is only 2 years old. At this rate all the money she has spent on the music will be locked out from it in a few short years.
This is why Amazaon DRM free music is way better.

I bought a 37″ Westinghouse LVM-37W1 1080i LCD monitor 3 years ago expecting to get 10 years of life out of it. I spent $1,803 on it (I am an early adopter). Now it is losing it’s picture a lot and is becoming unstable.
I understand that the lifespan for a LCD TV is around 60,000 hours. At ten years of use I should have got 16 hours a day use out of it. We usually watch about 2 hours a day.
I did a search on the internet for “Westinghouse LVM-37w1 Repair” and found a ton of people with the same issue I have:
I tried a technician knowledgeable on this set, and it would have cost $500-800 to repair the set. We learned from different forums that the likely culprit was either the power supply board or the LCD controller. We also picked up the rumor that Westinghouse had quit making replacement part. It would seem that the management of this organization has a death wish. TO THE CHASE: shopjimmy.com is now selling parts from cannibalized sets. They have a non-DOA warranty and a good return policy. A power supply from “Jimmy” solved my problem. I have one important hint: To remove the back, take out the obvious screws and the base. Then remove the ~5/8″ rods that protrude from the bottom. There is a screw up inside each rod.
$500 to $800 bucks is a ton of $ for a power supply that is not made any longer. I am not buying Westinghouse anymore if they won’t support their project only after 3 years! I can buy a new 40″ LCD at Costco for $999 that does 1080P.
Another consideration is the TV monitor LVM-37W1 uses 270 watts during use. A new and even larger monitor will require 265 watts. (I thought that would be lower by now.)
Also I would like to get a monitor with a card slot so I can get rid of the Comcast DVR which wastes a ton of electricity.
Update: I was in BestBuy today (the place I bought the LCD) and they do have the power supply listed on their site - so it can be ordered. Now the issue is if I want to replace it myself. PWB assy main bd l37avw 43aab part number Westinghouse Digital Part #5600110382

Before I get my new Iphone I thought it would be interesting to take note of the bandwidth I am using on my Treo 700 phone.

Molly plays Firefly, a piano duet with Ms. Chandi Beck.
We can’t say enough good things about “Ms. Chandi”.
Molly has come a long way in the 11 months since she started.

I normally like to go down to the town hall with the crowds to vote (it is exciting, I remember doing this with my oldest when she was only 1), but this time it was nice to vote at the breakfast table with the wife and discuss each item.
Here is my oldest mailing our Colorado ballots near Safeway.

I just bought a D-Link DIR-825 wireless router. I have it running fine except for Remote Desktop (RDT). With my old SMC Barricade I used to connect fine with remote desktop, but now I can’t with the new router.
I tried setting up a Virtual Server entry below on the router on port 3389 but that didn’t work.
I can ping my web server that I am trying to connect to just fine from within the D-Link Router.
Since it used to work fine before (few hours ago) and nothing has changed except for the router, it must be the new router not allowing the Remote Desktop connection.
I called D-Link tech support but they couldn’t help me, they told me to call their paid support number 888-814-2882.
The D-Link support rep had me configure a static IP address on my local machine and then use a Port Forwarding rule within the router on the same port but that created a conflict.
What is odd it when I attempt to connect using remote desktop I don’t see the failed attempt in the router’s log files.
I gotta think tons of people are in the same boat as me, why is this so hard to configure a remote desktop connection on a brand name router? This should be really easy.
Update: I think I figured it out, it has nothing to do with the router. My IP address changed when I unplugged my modem forcing a new IP address. So I have to change my firewall.
