I am usually very careful but I got a virus that I noticed in my startup menu that has no manufacturer listed. It appears the virus is very new only a couple days old.

This virus first appeared yesterday Jan 6th and my MS Security Essentials didn’t even know about it because it was so new.

What does it do?

About every 3 or 4th search on Google within Firefox 9 it would take me to an advertisement instead of the page Google intented. Sometimes it doesn’t go to an ad it take you to another virus.

What I am doing to clean my computer.

I disabled it on start up and deleted it in the directory, but it seems to be in the registry as well so that is what I am working on now.

If anyone figures out how to clean this off there Windows 7 system please let me know.

How I got rid of it

I did a restore from Jan 5th at 5am in the morning and that got rid of it.

Happened between 12/24 to 1/4/12

Google Gmail:

I am guessing that “50.16.179.243″ is backupify using amazon’s servers. And

Couple of days ago I started getting the “authorization failure” error when trying to watch a movie.

I called Netflix and they said to call Microsoft SliverLight team

I called Microsoft but they told me to call HP where I got the computer (they wanted to charge me for tech support.

I didn’t call HP because I know what they are going to say

I logged in to Netflix and removed all my devices (5 of them) and then tried it but no luck. I then try it on my other 2 computers, but no luck.

Frustrating.

Also I tried reverting back from Windows 7 SP1 because Netflix worked at that time before the SP was installed but that didn’t work.

Also I called a friend that never used his Netflix on WMC, I asked him to set it up and try it and it didn’t work for him (we are both on Comcast).

If I find a fix I will post it here.

UPDATE 7/5/2011 It started working again all of a sudden.

With all the tests I did I really think this was a Netflix issue even though they blamed it on MS.

Try these things:

Remove and reinstall Quicktime

Disable Resample on all clips

Lower the quality of the preview window

Purge unused media to help free up resources

Match Project Properties to your source media

Disable all start programs from running

Play around with the Split Screen button above the preview window

In the Trimmer window, unselect the “Show Video Monitor” button

Preferences Video Tab: Take your RAM preview to 0 megabytes.

If you get green clips coming in, select all clips and bring them in to a new project file because the old one is corrupt.

Make a new folder on your other hard drive and under preferences place all the temp files on there.

Zoom out

Press F5 to rebuild peaks, peaks have to be built before importing them on timeline

Virtual memory to c: on not d: since d has the video files

stay with 8bit editing and not 32bit. While 32bit editing can offer a tiny bit better visual quality when using plugins or transitions, it is extremely slow to edit as such.

Set the preview quality (in the preview window) to “preview (auto)”.

One of my sites has a popular podcast on DSLR video and it sucking most of my bandwidth 20gig of hosted bandwidth up so I tried Microsoft’s Skydrive.

I uploaded the mp3 to the cloud service and all was good for 3 days and then the URL’s that I was using changed and all my podcasts said “file not found” in my mp3 player. So I tried the new URL’s and only about 8 hours later those failed too, it is like it is learning.

So then I tried Google’s documents that now allows you to upload any file format. But I ran in to a problem with Google’s anti-virus message.

Anyone have other options?

I have two operating systems installed on my computer. One is Vista and the other is Windows 7.

Vista is the original OS on my computer [d:] and I just installed Win7 on a new hard drive [c:].

I am done with my Vista drive and would like to remove it or use it as another backup drive but I can’t remove it until the new c: drive has the System, Active status.

I posted this question in the forums and several people came up with a great idea of:

just place the W7 install DVD into the CD, boot from it and have it REPAIR the BOOT, and all will be OK from there…

So I gave it a try here is what I did (in order).

Below I disconnected the Vista drive and tried to boot from the Windows 7 DVD:

But for some reason it would let me and I kept getting this message.

So then I reconnected the Vista drive and started over, you can see the additional vista drive below (Hitachi):

Then it wanted to run the OS from the hard drives because I was too slow clicking on any key to boot from the DVD.

Above you can see I was finally successful booting from the DVD and I clicked Next.

Above you can see I then clicked on “Repair your Computer”.

Above you can see it started searching for Window installs.

Above you can see it found both and I selected Windows 7 to fix.

Above you can see I selected “Startup Repair” for the Windows 7 drive.

As you can see above it could not detect any problems with the install.

As you can see above using Disk Management that I was not successful moving System and Active attributes over to the new c: Windows 7 drive. It appears that K: was created for the DVD install.

Am I doing something wrong?

Update: I gave up because the registry got serious f%cked up so I started from the beginning and reinstalled Win7 clean.

I just updated to Windows 7 with a clean install so I had to reconfigure all my programs as they used to work on my Vista OS. For some reason setting up a scheduled backup using MySQL administrator is so tricky on many levels.

STEP 1:

Download MySQL Admin (free) Just Google the download.

STEP 2:

Set up your connection info within MySQL admin (easy).

STEP 3:

Create a backup project (also easy).

Wait about 5 seconds for the connection to the DB when you click on the lower left box to see all the tables appear, see below:

STEP 4:

Once you have the backup set up the way you like it, select the save button.

STEP 5:

TRICKY part! Do not use the password from yourDB connection, use it from your Windows account, I verified this works on Windows 7 as well (works on Vista too). You need to have a password assigned to your Windows account for this to work.

Notice that it doesn’t matter if you use the path or not, they both work.

Step 6:

You do not need to set anything up in the Windows Task Scheduler at all! Do not create a task here, MySQL will do this for you. I have wasted much time on this step.

Once you have clicked OK above and then you open Windows Task Scheduler you can now see your new scheduled task appear when you click on the Task Scheduler Library folder on the left side.

As you add more schedules you can just right click and hit refresh the library folder to see the new ones appear.
