We went up to Nederland Colorado this morning and near the mining museum was a large steam shovel. One of the girls’ favorite books is Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel (Marry-Ann) so we had to grab some photos. Actually it is also one of Kristen’s favorite books.
The steam shovel is a Bucyrus Model 50-B which was made in 1923 and came from the Panama Canal. It is the only model left. This shovel was operated in Lump Gulch Placer which is 6 miles south of Nederland.
