I have two operating systems installed on my computer. One is Vista and the other is Windows 7.
Vista is the original OS on my computer [d:] and I just installed Win7 on a new hard drive [c:].
I am done with my Vista drive and would like to remove it or use it as another backup drive but I can’t remove it until the new [ c:] drive has the System, Active status.
How can I move the “System, Active” status to the new [c:] Windows 7 drive?

When the Vista drive is disconnected I get the following message on boot up:
Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot
media in selected boot device
This is what Windows Disk Management looks like when I boot to the Vista drive:

If you do remove the Vista hard drive (temporarily disconnect SATA cable), what happens?
I’m guessing that you tried this and it didn’t boot.
With the computer in that state (Windows 7 installed, but not booting), maybe try using the Windows 7 install media to do some sort of ‘reinstall’ or ‘rescue’ that will create a MBR? on the Windows 7 drive.
Whoops. I didn’t even read all of your above post. So w/ vista disconnected it won’t boot. I say try ‘rescuing’ the windows 7 installation.
Great suggestion, I will give that a try and report back!
