I have been looking for a new host besides Crystaltech.com for a backup location for my main rentvine.com site and I have tried two of them Hostfolio.com and HostMySite.com.
I have heard very good things about HostMySite over the years. They are a bit more expensive at $20 a month for shared Coldfusion hosting.
As for Hostfolio I have been using them for a couple of years for my smaller sites. They are around $8 a month for shared Coldfusion with its own IP address.
I was really surprised by the page load times between the expensive and cheaper hosting. HostMySite was all over the map with long page load times the first time I tested.
The time is in milliseconds and calculated by starting a Coldfusion timer at the top of each page and ending it at the footer and taking the difference in time. All test pages have one simple query to a MySQL DB and the queries are not cached.
The page load time from HostMySite on the first round of test at 10:30pm were bad, I contacted HostMySite and they said that the MySQL server I was on was having issues so they moved me. As you can see it got better, but still not a good at the much cheaper hosting.

I did talk to a tech at HostFolio and to be fair he said it was a new box and had about 200 sites on it so far, so how knows it could get worse in the future.
I am very impressed with Hostfolio tech support too. However I am not a big fan of their HELM software. I like Crystaltech’s control panel better.

Dave, I’m surprised how cheap Hostfolio is, especially in comparison to their serivce AND dedicated IP. Good deal!
Ben,
I just wish they would replace the HELM with something better. Also some of their documentation is off, you will order a bronze plan but in the invoice email they say you signed up for a silver plan. But Hostfolio has very good techs on the phone which is a big plus for a cheap host.
