I have been getting this message for weeks, I have tried changing the email address several time without success.
I think I have it figured out, I use SmarterMail with has this brillant spam filtering called greylisting, which is:
In name, as well as operation, greylisting is related to whitelisting and blacklisting. What happen is that each time a given mailbox receives an email from an unknown contact (ip), that mail is rejected with a “try again later”-message (This happens at the SMTP layer and is transparent to the end user). This, in the short run, means that all mail gets delayed at least until the sender tries again – but this is where spam loses out! Most spam is not sent out using RFC compliant MTAs; the spamming software will not try again later.
Sounds like twitter is set up to not try again. So I added them as a safe and trusted sender to get around this issue.

Update 2/16/09: My idea did not work – anyone have any other ideas to try?
Update 4/1/09: I started using my Yahoo address for twitter and that solved the problem. Still don’t know why my other email addresses didn’t work.

So…did it work? I’ve been baffled by the same thing. And SmarterMail is in play fo rme as well!
Nope, it has been sometime now and it didn’t work. Does anyone have any other ideas?
I’ve had the same for weeks, tried a couple of different POP3 accounts but all eventually cause the error to reappear.
I added just the twitter.com domain in my spam filtering (also SmarterMail) but have no success either.
If you do manage to find a solution, any chance of a ping to @Joffff?
I am not sure what else to try, if it has nothing to do with SmarterMail then it must be on Twitter’s end.
This must be a Smartermail issue – as i cant get twitter through on any of the accounts hosted on my smartermail server.
May be they will fix this issue in the next release of S.Mail.
This Error growing like Fire! This is a Mega problem. I have tried various email id’s and its still not solved!
Is your email address active?
We’ve tried to send emails to ‘inquiry at kipl dot net’, but they are not getting delivered, possibly because your email address is no longer valid. Click here to update your email settings, or click here to try sending messages to your email address again.
It seems the problem doe go away when we stop using our corporate or company or private ids and try Yahoo.com or Gmail.com ids! Do try it and let me know if it works for u peeps?!!
Every time I click “Try resending” it works for a few days, and then stops. This is on a proper POP3 email address at ampsoundsystems.com. Its weird that I get a few emails.
